Baby Book update on the way!

There's an update on its way to Windows Phone Marketplace. The update is currently waiting to get certified by Microsoft.

The update brings two changes to the app.

  1. Ability to copy images taken within Baby Book to the phone's library. This can be done from the application menu at the bottom of book view page (copy all images from one baby) or individually from the event details view (which can be accessed by selecting an event from the book view). Confusing to explain but hopefully easy to find after brief exploring.
  2. Feedback button for you to send feedback by email. The feedback is used to develop new features and repair existing ones to work better to your needs.
  3. The trial version has an advertisement box in two pages - first of which is the book view and second is the chart view. The ad boxes use AdDuplex's system, which basically mean that it shows ads apps, and in exchange, Baby Book is getting ad space in other apps too.
After releasing this 4.4 update, I've been thinking that maybe an ad box in the book view page is not necessary. I plan to move it to another place in the next update. Somewhere that it would not be so intrusive to you the users :)

There has also been some feedback on the Marketplace's review section that the app should contain a chart where users could see their baby's weight and weight estimates compared to normal growth. This could help parents see if their baby is growing too slow or gaining weight too fast.

The chart button will also be moved from the main page to the book view page in the next update to eliminate buttons from the main page.

Backup to SkyDrive has also been in the works for some time. More on that later :)

That's that. It will take a few more days for Microsoft to certificate and publish the update.

Hope you like the app and send feedback on what's working and what's not.

Baby Book - now support for email!

In the latest release of Baby Book a new feature broke daylight. You may now send your baby's whole book as email message to anyone!

This can be done from the timeline view. You may also send individual events as emails from the event details view (accessed from the timeline).

There is a catch to it though. Because Windows Phone platform does not allow attachments to be placed by the program, images can not be sent with the book. This is of course going to be fixed as soon as the platform updates to support the feature.

And I didn't mention that also the price has dropped - so why not get on board and use the most modern baby book application out there!

In the next update, Baby Book is going to get graphs - expect your apps to update again within the next couple of weeks :)

Another intermission: Assistant for Weight

This is a free app for keeping track of your weight. It is based on the Medical Assistant app, in fact it's derived from it - hence the same look and feel. Features include graphs, email support and impeccably simple overall user experience.

Perhaps this helps you on tracking weight during and after pregnancy.

Give it a try!

Soon to come: Graphs!

It's been a while since last time posting, but now its safe to say that Baby Book is going to have graphs for different measurements soon. I'd say that within two to three weeks the feature could be ready and an update available (it takes time to a) design the graphs, b) code the graphs, and c) publish an update).

The graphs are going to develop further and let you follow your baby's growth against the so called growth charts that show lines of "normal growth". That way you will have first hand information about how your baby is growing when compared to an average.

Go and download your Baby Book and start logging those precious events today!

There is also going to come a medical assistance application very soon, and with it, you may track your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight while receiving feedback on your progress of - for example - losing weight.

What's coming?

Why is the app being developed?
The problem is not that we don't like books - but when we buy a book, it's the first few months that the book is around but eventually it's going to be forgotten on the bottom of a drawer, or destroyed by family pets.

This creates a problem; as the baby grows, new events are piling to be marked and the pain of procrastination start to grow as well. When finally the book is found, the events have been fading from our memories and thus can never be recalled properly.

Here we come to the app. Since a growing number of us have mobile devices capable of taking pictures and making notes, we should also be able to use the device for keeping a baby book. This app will be constantly getting better and as result you will have a trustworthy place to store memories from a child's early years.

What are baby books?
Baby books are just like diaries with prefixed event forms that can be filled out as a child grows. The events are designed to be powerful memory aids when reading back a few years later and wondering how the time went by so fast.

The book itself serves as a parental log and can also be passed on to the child when he or she has grown older. It's interesting to see through your own parents' markings what kind of a childhood you had.

This app is aimed to be a full featured baby diary and as such, it will always be where ever you are - and ready to receive those important memories!

Our mission - what we would like to create
We the developers are trying our best to make this application serve its purpose as well as possible. Our goal is to build an application that is easy to use, simple to comprehend and platform independent. This means that we are aiming for an app that will be available for Windows Phone platform, as well as on Android and iOS devices.

It also should not matter whether or not you decide to switch phones in between - the events should always be there safe and sound. There is a web service in the works so keep an eye out for that too. It should eventually be possible to take notes with whatever device you have, browse the markings on the web service and order a traditionally printed book when you feel like having a beautifully designed book at your disposal to, let's say, give as a gift to your child :)

First release is coming withing a couple of days!
